Well, I had an unexpected surprise today. I got a Christmas present! My mom had put a parcel into the post for me last November! We thought it had been confiscated, or just plain lost. But lo and behold, today, in walked the delivery man with the box tucked under his arm.
I was SO excited! You cannot imagine how it feels to be so far away from home, and then to receive this package all wrapped up in love and warm thoughts.
She clearly put a lot of thought into it. There was a penguin tree ornament (I love penguins), a key chain of a teddy bear with my name on it, a fridge magnet, cow candies from Poland (yummmm), a card, some chocolate, a tape dispenser shaped like a highheeled red shoe (don't ask), and, courtesy of my sister, Little Moo, a bag of Bran Flakes!!
Yippee!! These little bits of home go such a long way to making my time away less lonely.
I feel so loved today. And that is the best Christmas present in the world!

Awww, how nice! Getting things in the mail is always fun and I can imagine when you're far from home, it means so much more. Nice. Merry Christmas :)
Our family lived overseas a long time ago - when long distance calls were too expensive to make unless it was an emergency and internet and email weren't even dreamed about. I'll never forget those blue airmail envelopes with the writing very small and close together just to fit everything in. They were precious. Gifts from family were a huge morale boost. You list the items which to another may seem small and insigificant but I know, they're not!!! Sending more warm fuzzies your way. I'm really heartened too to read that you're working in your happy niche. That spot is hard to reach and you dared to go for it. I'm glad it's paying off.
Hey Janice and Barbara,
You are right, it's sooo nice to get a little package of love from home. Even if the items are just tiny (my mom sent a National Enquirer in one parcel!), just to know I'm thought about and that someone cares enough to put thought into a gift, goes and gets it, wraps it, and takes it to the post and pays the huge amounts to send it here.... It's like getting a big bear hug :)
